LEWISTON, Maine — The No. 32 Bates College men's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 18 Williams Sunday in NESCAC action at Merrill Gymnasium.
Williams (4-0, 3-0 NESCAC) built early momentum by capturing two of the three doubles matches to claim the opening point. The Ephs secured victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, while the Bates pairing of
Eric Diop and
Josh Maller earned a convincing 6-0 win at the No. 2 position to prevent the sweep.
In singles play, Williams extended its lead by winning all six matches.
Theo Sardain battled at No. 3 singles but fell 6-3, 6-4, while
Rocco Regnier pushed Anthony Lim to three sets at No. 4 before coming up just short, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Phillippe Kosyagin also forced a tight second set at the top of the lineup, dropping a 6-2, 7-6 decision at No. 1 singles. The Ephs closed out the match with straight-set victories at Nos. 2, 5, and 6 singles.
The Bobcats (3-6, 1-3 NESCAC) will now remain idle until Saturday, March 28 when Bates hosts No. 7 Bowdoin at 1:00 p.m.
