WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bates women's tennis team dropped a 7–0 decision at No. 21 Wellesley on Sunday afternoon at the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.
The host Blue (4-0) captured the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, though Bates came closest at the No. 3 position, where
Grace LaFountain and
Elise Hepburn pushed Wellesley's Nandini Patel and Sofia Corte-Real to a tiebreak before falling, 7–6 (7–4).
Hepburn earned Bates' lone set victory of the match at No. 3 singles, taking the opening set 7–5 before Wellesley's Patel rebounded to win the final two sets, including a 10–1 super tiebreaker.
Isabella Saul (No. 2) and
Ava Steinberger (No. 5) each played competitive first sets, falling 7–5 before Wellesley closed out both matches in straight sets.
Bates (1-5) will return to action on Saturday, hosting No. 15 Tufts at 2:00 p.m. in Merrill Gymnasium. The match will serve as the NESCAC season debut for both squads.
