Perfect at Home: Bates’ Second-Half Surge Fuels 81–73 Comeback Over Camels

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates men's basketball delivered one of its most thrilling home performances of the season Friday night, erasing a 15-point first-half deficit and pulling away late for an 81–73 comeback win over Connecticut College at Alumni Gym.

With the win, the Bobcats remain perfect at home this season at 10-0.

The Bobcats (17–6, 5–4 NESCAC) trailed 31–16 with 5:28 remaining in the first half after Connecticut College capped a 15-point advantage on a layup by sophomore Alden Doran (Belgrade, Maine). Bates responded by scoring 12 of the final 19 points of the half, including a three-pointer from senior Peter Psyhogeos with eight seconds left, to cut the deficit to 38–28 at the break.

Bates carried that momentum into the second half, steadily chipping away before taking its first lead of the night at the 4:35 mark when sophomore Sean O'Leary completed a three-point play to put the Bobcats ahead 65–64. From there, Bates closed the game at the free-throw line, making nine of its final 10 attempts at the charity stripe, along with a clutch three-pointer from senior Brady Coyne at the 3:27 mark.

The victors scored 53 points in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field (17-for-34) and 4-of-8 from three in the stanza. Coyne led the second-half surge, scoring all 18 of his points after the break, including four three-pointers. Jamari Robinson also finished with 18 points, while  O'Leary recorded 15 points (all in the second half), seven rebounds, and four assists.

Junior Babacar Pouye provided a strong interior presence with 10 points and nine rebounds, helping Bates hold a 47–31 rebounding advantage and generate 26 second-chance points. Bates' bench accounted for 29 points, compared to 25 for the Camels, as the Bobcats repeatedly extended possessions in the second half.

Connecticut College (16–8, 4–6 NESCAC) was led by junior Dylan Watson's (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) career-high 24 points, including a new career-best 12-of-13 shooting at the free-throw line. The Camels shot 44.1 percent in the first half, but were limited to 36.4 percent shooting (8-for-22) after the break.

The garnet and white concludes the 2025–26 regular season Sunday at Alumni Gym, welcoming No. 13 Tufts University for a 2 p.m. tip. Bates will honor its senior class in a pregame ceremony.
