LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior captain
Elsa Daulerio recorded a double-double and the No. 13 nationally ranked Bates women's basketball team notched a seventh straight win with a 69-60 victory over Hamilton Sunday afternoon in NESCAC action at Alumni Gym.
The Bobcats (13-1, 2-0 NESCAC) have opened conference play with back-to-back victories. They did not trail in either game, marking the first time since the 2008-09 season that Bates has not trailed at any point in their first two NESCAC contests. Overall, Bates has not trailed in four consecutive games.
Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) matched her season-high with 22 points, scoring 10 of them in a dominant second quarter. Her 12 rebounds on Sunday are a season-high and good for her first double-double of the 2025-26 campaign. She matched her career-high with five blocked shots and also dished out three assists.
Three Bobcats joined her in double figures scoring. Senior
Sophie Spolter (Blacklick, Ohio) tallied 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Sophomore
Lily Lambo (Watertown, Mass.) matched her career-high with 13 points on 4-8 shooting, matching Daulerio with a team-high three assists. Junior
Sarah Hughes (Rumson, N.J.) scored 12 points on 5-9 shooting and secured five rebounds.
Lily Lambo's older sister Taylor Lambo paced Hamilton with 14 points on 6-14 shooting and 10 rebounds. Erica Hills added 11 points on 3-8 shooting, Kendall Harris nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, and Annabelle Semeter scored 10 points off the bench for the Continentals.
With the game tied at 10, Hughes gave Bates the lead for good with an offensive rebound and a layup with 4:51 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcats led 19-16 through one quarter and the game remained very close in the second 10 minutes of action, with each team scoring 17 points in the second quarter. Daulerio carried the Bates offense, shooting 5-8 from the floor in the second quarter to match Hamilton's strong offense, which was led by Semeter's six points on 3-4 shooting in the frame.
Up 36-33 at the break, the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run early in the third quarter. Hughes made the first three-pointer of the game for either team with 6:47 left in the third, putting Bates up 45-35. The Bobcats took their biggest lead of the game when Hughes recorded a steal and a fast-break layup to extend the lead to 15 at 57-42 with 1:42 left in the third.
Bates took a 58-45 lead into the fourth quarter and the Continentals (8-7, 0-1 NESCAC) got no closer than within nine points the rest of the way.
Turnovers proved to be a big difference in the game, as Hamilton turned the ball over 17 times to just nine turnovers for the Bobcats. Bates finished with 19 points off turnovers while the Continentals scored only four points off turnovers.
The Bobcats are back in action this Friday when they travel to No. 10 nationally ranked Bowdoin for a 7 p.m. tip.
