Women's Tennis Rolls to 5-2 NESCAC Home Win vs. Trinity

LEWISTON, Maine --  Bates College women's tennis enjoyed a 5-2 NESCAC triumph over visiting Trinity College Saturday in Merrill Gymnasium as the Bobcats snapped a six-match slide with the victory.

In doubles action, the tandems of Olivia Gidlow and Lizzie Frekko (6-1 over Ella Baker / Allie Francis) and Ava Lyon and Ava Steinberger (6-1 over Elise Brennan / Julia Clark) recorded wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively, to put the Bobcats ahead, 1-0, heading into singles play.

Bates went on to take four of the six singles matches, starting with Gidlow who defeated Naisha Rathi in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3.  Frekko followed at No. 4 with a solid 6-2, 6-0 showing vs. Kendall Cedar. Lyon authored a sweep at No. 5 by defeating Brennan 6-2, 6-2.

In the No. 6 slot, a determined Steinberger outlasted Hellena Trojer in a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) thriller as the Bobcats improve to 3-4 in conference play (5-11 overall) with the win.

The garnet and white will play its final home match of the regular season Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. vs. No. 5 Wesleyan. The Bobcats will celebrate the collegiate careers of Frekko, Gidlow, Lyon, and Drew Williams during a special pre-match ceremony.
