BANGOR, Maine – The Bates College women's lacrosse team delivered an offensive clinic Tuesday night, overwhelming Husson 24-5 for their highest scoring output in nearly two decades. The Bobcats (3-1) raced out to a 9-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, securing their best start to a season since 2019.
Lucy Taylor got the scoring started just 16 seconds into the contest, netting a free-position goal to ignite a dominant first half. Bates strung together nine of the game's first 10 tallies, capped by
Haley Wines' first collegiate goal with 1:41 left in the first period.. The Bobcats carried that momentum into the second, outscoring Husson 7-0 in the period.
Grace Cassin's goal at 11:58 pushed the lead to double digits, and
Julia Roelofs scored two of her game-high four goals in the frame as Bates entered halftime up 16-2.
Husson (1-2) managed just seven total shots in the game against a stifling Bates defense that forced 25 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Bobcats kept pouring it on, with goals from 12 different players, including hat tricks from Roelofs, Cassin, and
Caroline Keating.
Lauren Wong (2 G, 3 A) and
Frankie Franz (2 G, 2 A) each dished out multiple assists while Taggart led with four helpers and six total points (2 G).
The Bobcats controlled the draw circle all night, winning 21 draw controls to Husson's nine. Reigning Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association National Defensive Player of the Week,
Olivia Hall, along with teammate
Laci Raveis, had three caused turnovers each.
Bates looks to keep rolling as they prepare to host Williams Saturday at noon in the home opener for the Bobcats.
