LEWISTON, Maine – Despite a tough 6-1 defeat to No. 10 nationally ranked Middlebury, Bates College women's tennis found a bright spot in the standout performance of
Olivia Gidlow, who secured an impressive straight-set victory at No. 3 singles on Sunday at Merrill Gymnasium.
Facing off against Middlebury's Claudia Miller, Gidlow dominated from the outset, taking control early and closing out a 6-2, 6-4 triumph to give the Bobcats (4-9, 2-2 NESCAC) their lone point of the match. Middlebury (8-2, 4-0 NESCAC) showcased its depth, sweeping all three doubles matches before securing victories in five of the six singles contests.
Bates returns to the court on Saturday as the Bobcats pay a visit to No. 12 Amherst for another NESCAC match-up. Start time is 10:30 a.m.
