LEWISTON, Maine -- In a tightly-contested NESCAC women's lacrosse showdown, No. 15 Trinity emerged victorious over Bates College, 16-12, Friday night on Russell Street Track & Field.
Trinity set the tone early, with Sarah Marvin scoring the game's first goal at 14:18 in the first quarter. Bates quickly responded, with Laci Raveis finding the net less than a minute later. The first quarter continued with Trinity gaining momentum, scoring four more times, including a free-position goal by Kaeley Zito, to take a commanding 6-1 lead. However, Bates began to claw back in the second quarter, netting six goals, with Raveis completing a hat trick within the first four minutes of the quarter. The half ended with Trinity holding a narrow 10-7 lead.
The back-and-forth action continued into the second half. Bates opened the third quarter scoring three of the first four goals, narrowing the score to 11-10, but Trinity managed to maintain a slim lead. The fourth quarter was equally intense, with Bates tying the game at 12-12 after Caroline Keating's goal at the 11:31 mark. Trinity, however, responded with a four-goal surge to seal the victory.
Trinity's offense was led by Kaeley Zito, Kelsey Restivo, and Marvin each scoring three goals, and Ivy Armentrout, who contributed three goals and two assists. Grace Denious tallied a goal and two assists, while Brooke Kurtz added two goals and an assist. For Bates, Raveis was a dominant force, scoring five goals, as Caroline Taggart contributed a goal and four assists.
Goalkeepers Olivia Aguirre (45:00, six saves) and Ali Macdougall (15:00) combined for nine saves with Macdougall earning the win off the Trinity bench. Bates' Molly Urbonas (0-1) made six saves as the first-year saw 34:26 of action for the Bobcats. Starting netminder, Raegan White, recorded a pair of saves in just under 26 minutes (25:34) of time. The game was physical, with a total of 46 fouls called and 12 cards issued.
Each team registered 31 shots apiece while Bates held a slight edge in draw controls, securing 19 compared to Trinity's 13.
The garnet and white will now look to Wednesday evening when the Bobcats host rival-Bowdoin College at 7:00 p.m.
