LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College women's tennis, hosting its first home match of the spring, welcomed Wellesley College to Merrill Gymnasium for a non-conference showdown. It would be the visiting Blue that would earn the victory, defeating the Bobcats by a score of 6-1.

The match opened with Wellesley collecting a clean sweep in doubles play:

1) Sofia Corte-Real/Kotistha Modak (Wellesley) def. Lizzie Frekko/Ava Lyon (Bates): 6-3
2) Emilee Pak/Suzanne Xu (Wellesley) def. Olivia Gidlow/Iris Westmoreland (Bates): 6-3
3) Lily Cade/Kriti Sarav (Wellesley) def. Elise Hepburn/Isabella Saul (Bates): 6-4

The Bobcats' lone point of the afternoon came at No. 6 singles as senior Ava Lyon captured a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sarav.

Wellesley moves to 6-1 on the year while the garnet and white slips to 1-4 overall.

Bates now prepares for NESCAC play as the Bobcats will host No. 15 Tufts this Friday at 4:00 p.m. in Merrill.
