BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The No. 22 nationally ranked Bates men's swimming and diving team turned in a dominant performance at the CBB Meet on Saturday, winning 12 events against rivals Bowdoin and Colby to earn the victory.
Bates outscored Colby 167-113 and defeated Bowdoin 156-106.
Meet Highlights
- Sophomore Tim Johnson (Brewster, Mass.), junior Marrich Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.), first-year Nate Oppenheim (Easton, Conn.), and junior Max Cory (Dublin, Calif.) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:29.26, breaking the Bowdoin pool record in the event.
- Sophomore John Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:39.55 and the 200-IM in 1:52.47.
- Johnson won the 100-yard backstroke in 49.66 seconds and the 200-yard backstroke in 1:49.13.
- Sophomore Liam Friedlander (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the 200-yard butterfly in a judges' decision with an approximate time of 1:50.57.
- Cory won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.39 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 44.58 seconds.
- Oppenheim and Somridhivej took 1-2 in the 200-yard breaststroke, with Oppenheim winning in 2:04.04.
- First-year Anton Kondratyev (Belle Mead, N.J.) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.47 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:53.52.
- Cory, Weigel, Somridhivej, and Oppenheim won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:22.59.
The men's swimming and diving team returns to action Feb. 20-23 when they compete at the NESCAC Championships, hosted this year by Middlebury.
