WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates women's swimming and diving team remained in eighth place Saturday after another solid day for the Bobcats at the NESCAC Championships.
Bates enters Sunday's final day of competition with 430 points, 32 points ahead of ninth-place Connecticut College.
Day Three Highlights
- Sophomore Sarah Palmer (Brunswick, Maine) placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 1:03.24 in the championship final. This came on the heels of her breaking the school record in the event with her prelims time of 1:02.86. Meanwhile, sophomore Amber Zeng (South Windsor, Conn.) finished eighth in the consolation final in 1:06.43 after a prelims time of 1:06.01.
- Senior captain Stephanie Tropper (Solon, Ohio) took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.58.
- Sophomore Cora Zuwallack (East Falmouth, Mass.) finished fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:24.76, 18 seconds better than their seed time.
- The Bates 200-yard medley relay team of first-year Erin Barisonek (New Vernon, N.J.), Palmer, sophomore Emily Kalvaitis (Darien, Conn.), and junior Lianna Rosman (Bethesda, Md.) took seventh place in 1:44.68.
- Barisonek took second in the preconsolation final of the 100-yard backstroke in 58.79 seconds.
- Kalvaitis and junior Emma Burke (New Hartford, N.Y.) took second and third respectively in the preconsolation final of the 100-yard butterfly, as Kalvaitis touched the wall in 57.47 and Burke finished in 57.52.
- First-year Isabelle Chou (East Greenwich, R.I.) took seventh in the preconsolation final of the 400-yard IM in 4:38.28.
The Bobcats conclude the NESCAC Championships on Sunday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:15 p.m.
