WATERVILLE, Maine -- Led by the 400-yard medley relay, the Bates women's swimming and diving team turned in a number of impressive performances Friday at the NESCAC Championships.
With two days remaining, the Bobcats have tallied 264 points, good for eighth place out of 11 teams.
Friday Bates NESCAC Championships Highlights
- The Bates 400-yard medley relay team of first-year Erin Barisonek (New Vernon, N.J.), sophomore Sarah Palmer (Brunswick, Maine), junior Emma Burke (New Hartford, N.Y.), and senior captain Stephanie Tropper (Solon, Ohio) took sixth place out of 22 teams with an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 3:49.74, with all four Bobcats swimming lifetime best splits.
- Palmer placed fourth in the championship final in the 50-yard breaststroke in 28.99 seconds while sophomore Amber Zeng (South Windsor, Conn.) took third in the preconsolation final in 30.34 seconds.
- Sophomore Emily Kalvaitis (Darien, Conn.) finished second in the consolation final of the 50-yard butterfly in 25.53 seconds.
- Tropper took second in the consolation final of the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.37 while sophomore Cora Zuwallack (East Falmouth, Mass.) finished third in 5:03.54.
- First-year Kendall Keshen (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished second in the preconsolation final of the 200-yard IM in 2:08.82 and junior Lily Barisonek (New Vernon, N.J.) took sixth in 2:10.80.
- The Bates 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kalvaitis, Zeng, junior Lianna Rosman (Bethesda, Md.), and Tropper placed eighth in 1:37.10, below their seed time.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday at the NESCAC Championships, with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:45 p.m.
