LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore
Lily Brown scored a career-high 18 points on 5-5 shooting from three-point range and the No. 10 nationally ranked Bates women's basketball team rolled to an 88-56 win over the University of New England Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.
Brown (Dallas, Texas) outscored the Nor'easters (2-5) by herself in the first quarter, tallying 12 points and hitting 4-4 from long distance over the first 10 minutes of action. Meanwhile, UNE finished the first quarter with 10 points as the Bobcats (5-0) jumped out to a 21-10 lead.
With the Bobcats trailing 2-0, Brown got the Bobcats on the board by hitting a three-pointer with 5:37 left in the first quarter. Then she hit another three with 4:43 left to put Bates up 6-4.
Kaia Anderson tied the game at six on a layup with 3:41 to go in the first. Back-to-back buckets from sophomore
Gabby Bellacqua (West Newbury, Mass.) and senior
Danielle Adams (Southborough, Mass.) gave Bates the lead for good. UNE kept the game close thanks to a Paige Meda layup making the score 10-8 with 2:22 on the clock.
But back-to-back threes from Brown and Bellacqua opened up a 16-8 lead for the hosts.
With the score 16-10, sophomore
Lily Lambo (Watertown, Mass.) made a layup with 22 seconds left, Bellacqua blocked a shot on the other end, and Brown drilled her fourth three of the quarter, beating the buzzer for a 21-10 Bates lead.
The second quarter proved to be evenly matched, with the Nor'easters trimming the Bates lead to 24-15 on a Emily Picher layup with 8:10 remaining until halftime. But sophomore

Ava James (Bethesda, Md.), and senior
Sophie Spolter (Blacklick, Ohio) keyed a 7-0 run for the Bobcats, and the lead remained double digits for the rest of the game.
A buzzer-beating jumper from first-year
Claire Gaetani (Old Town, Maine) gave Bates a 41-28 lead at halftime.
The Bobcats led by as many as 36 points in the second half, with Gaetani and first-year
Londyn Perry (Dallas, Texas) joining Brown in tallying career-highs in scoring. Gaetani finished with nine points on 3-4 shooting and Perry tallied eight points on 2-5 shooting. Spolter was the only other Bobcat besides Brown in double figures, scoring 11 points on 5-8 shooting.
Twelve different Bobcats scored points on Sunday, as Bates shot 52.9 percent from the floor. Senior captain
Elsa Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) tallied eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. Her eight points gives Daulerio 1,009 points in her career, moving her past her mother and Bates associate director of athletics
Adrienne Shibles '91 (1,005 career points) and into 20th on the Bates all-time scoring list.
Bates controlled all the statistical categories against UNE, holding the visitors to 33.3 percent shooting. Bates tallied 19 points off turnovers to nine for UNE. They recorded 23 second-chance points and held the Nor'easters to 11 second-chance points. Bates also tallied an impressive 64 bench points to just 21 for the visitors. The Bobcats also dominated with 44 points in the paint and held UNE to 18.
The Bobcats hit the road Tuesday to take on No. 23 nationally ranked Colby in a non-conference game. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
