HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates football junior captains
Ryan Lynskey and
Ryan Rozich were both honored by the NESCAC on Monday, as Lynskey was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week and Rozich earned Special Teams Player of the Week for their respective performances in Saturday's 35-28 win over Tufts.
It's the third NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week award of Lynskey's career. This latest honor comes on the heels of the talented running back earning the Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers for the second time as he carried the ball a career-high 32 times for 221 yards against the Jumbos. Lynskey's career-high four rushing touchdowns included a 24-yard run up the middle to put Bates ahead for good with 58 seconds remaining in regulation.
Lynskey (Cranford, N.J.) is currently averaging 100.4 rushing yards per game, tops in the NESCAC.
Rozich (Cromwell, Conn.) is a starting inside linebacker for the Bobcats and is the leading tackler in the NESCAC at 11.8 tackles per game. He led all players with 12 total tackles on Saturday, but he earns the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week honor due to his performance at long snapper.
Starting long snapper senior
Domenic Virelli (Melrose Park, Ill.) went down with an injury during the game, so Rozich stepped into a role he had not filled since high school. He handled it with aplomb and the Bobcats did not miss a beat down the stretch. With the Bobcats trailing 28-21 and five minutes remaining in regulation, Rozich recovered a misplayed punt by the Jumbos deep in Tufts territory, setting up a Lynskey touchdown as Bates eventually rallied to win the game.
This is the first NESCAC Player of the Week honor of Rozich's career.
The Bobcats (2-3 NESCAC) are back in action this Saturday when they host Williams at 1 p.m. on Garcelon Field.
