LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College men's tennis hosted its annual Wallach Invitational this weekend, welcoming players from Brandeis University, Colby College, and Trinity College to the Wallach Tennis Center for a two-day event.
In Saturday's opening round, first-year Rocco Regnier picked up a singles win for the Bobcats, defeating Colby's Diego Sosa, 6-3, 6-4.
Bates added two more singles victories in round two as first-years Josh Maller and Alexander Podoltsev each prevailed against Trinity opponents. Maller topped Brandon Felcher, 6-4, 6-3, while Podoltsev outlasted Rico Buoro, 6-3, 7-6.
The Bobcats finished day one strong with a pair of doubles triumphs in the third round. Regnier and Theo Sardain defeated Trinity's Max Kauffman and Andrew Nelson, 8-6, and the tandem of Eric Diop and Maller followed with an 8-4 win over Felcher and John Pope. Diop also capped Saturday with a singles victory, edging Brandeis' Huasen Dong, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.
Sunday began with another doubles win for Diop and Maller, who cruised past Colby's Rhys Spano and Sosa, 8-3. Maller carried that momentum into singles play, holding off Colby's Kevin Mortimer, 7-5, 7-5.
Bates swept singles action in round five, highlighted by wins from Diop, Sardain, and Regnier. Diop earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Trinity's Sam Park, Sardain topped Kauffman, 7-6, 6-3, and Regnier closed the weekend with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Max Golubenko of Trinity.
The garnet and white will conclude its fall campaign on Saturday, Oct. 25 with an appearance in the Bryant University Invitational in Smithfield, R.I.
