WATERVILLE, Maine -- After dropping its first four contests to start the 2024-25 campaign, Bates College men's basketball continues its recent surge as the Bobcats, with Sunday's 74-63 non-conference road win at Colby College, have now been victorious in six of their last seven outings to move to 6-4 on the year.
After a first half that saw the host-Mules take a slim 33-30 advantage into the break, the Bobcats opened the second stanza with a 9-6 spurt to tie the game at 39-39 just 2:12 in.
Brady Coyne's three-pointer at the 15:48 mark snapped the stalemate and provided Bates a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
Peter Psyhogeos, who finished the day with a double-double performance consisting of 18 points and a game-high 13 boards, connected on a lay-up with 4:03 left to pad Bates' cushion at 68-58, creating an advantage that would not slip below double-digits. The junior knocked down a pair of free throws with 27 seconds remaining to increase the road team's lead to a high-water mark of 14 (74-60).
Babacar Pouye topped all scorers with his game-leading 19 points, complemented by eight rebounds, over his 26 minutes. The aforementioned Coyne, along with teammate
Keenan Sparks, poured in 12 and 10 points, respectively, to give the victors four starters with double-digit scoring efforts.Â
Marcos Montiel paced the Mules (8-4) with 16 points.
Bates now gears up for NESCAC play as the garnet and white opens the conference slate Friday with a 7 p.m. home tilt vs. Amherst (9-4).Â
