Bates Athletics to Celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day, February 2

Women's basketball to host Middlebury following event at 1 p.m.

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bobcat fans are invited to join the Bates College women's varsity teams for 2025 National Girls & Women in Sports Day, an annual event to highlight women's athletics at Bates on Sunday, Feb. 2 from 11-1 p.m. in the Clifton Daggett Gray Athletic Building (aka Gray Cage) on the college's campus.

The NGWSD event includes mini clinics with a majority of Bates' women's varsity sports, giving kids the opportunity to try out a variety of skills in a fun environment that's appropriate for our young female Bobcats (ages 5 and up). Bates sponsors 15 women's varsity sports, including: alpine skiing, basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, Nordic skiing, rowing, soccer, softball, squash, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Throughout the event, participants will be offered pizza and make posters with the Bates student-athletes in support of the women's basketball team.  There is no charge to participate and all attendees are invited to attend the Bates women's basketball game vs. Middlebury College in Alumni Gymnasium. (1:00 p.m. tip-off).

National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 as a special day in our nation's capital to recognize women's sports. The day united premiere organizations and elite women athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports.
