FARMINGTON, Maine -- Behind a suffocating defense that yielded only two first-quarter points, and 15 overall points over the initial 30 minutes of action, Bates College halted its four-game losing streak in dominating fashion Wednesday as the Bobcats cruised to a 77-45 non-conference road win at UMaine Farmington (8-9).
Holding the host-Beavers to a paltry 1-for-14 shooting from the floor in the opening period, Bates owned a healthy 18-2 surplus heading into the second quarter. Down 16-0 to start the contest, UMF did not net its first field goal until the 1:50 mark of the frame.
The garnet and white increased its lead to a first-half best 27 points when a
Petra Kuncz layup made the score 40-13 Bates with 38 seconds to go before intermission.
Gabby Bellacqua connected on a jumper with 1:02 to go in the third to inflate the Bobcat cushion above the 30-point threshold at 60-28.
Lily Brown's respective buckets with 2:05 and 1:20 remaining in regulation lifted the road team's lead to a high-water mark of 35.
14 different Bobcats represented the victors in the scoring column as Bates posted a 32-for-75 showing (42.7%) from the field. The aforementioned Brown paced all players with a career-high 13 points in 19 minutes off the bench in the win.
Danielle Adams fell just short of her second-career double-double as the junior accounted for 10 boards and nine points.
Bates (10-7) returns to campus to host UMass Dartmouth this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Alumni Gym.
