LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College men's lacrosse fell to visiting Trinity by a score of 13-8 in a windy Saturday NESCAC tilt at Garcelon Field.
Both the Bobcats and the Bantams (5-4, 1-3 NESCAC) came into the game looking for their first win in conference play, with Bates winning three of their first four non-conference games.
Bates was held scoreless until the 7:38 point in the second quarter, at which time Trinity had scored seven unanswered goals. The seal was broken by first-year attack, TJ Underhill (assisted by Riley McClure), as he smoked the ball into the back of the net to finally put Bates on the board.
Down by seven at the half (9-2), Bates was able to secure goals with more regularity. McClure, Underhill, and Alex Horowitz each scored in the third period, as did Gray Doyle, who added a goal late in the second period.
Tolland tallied 11 saves over a complete game, adding another impressive game to his season tally. Jordan Opdahl took home the goalkeeping victory for Trinity, registering 14 saves over his 60:00.
Doyle scored three times, while Underhill tallied two goals. McClure, Horowitz, and Will Masterson each scored one, making up the Bobcats' scoring for the day.
Bo Page led all players with seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in the Trinity triumph. Jon Krikorian and Jay Ottomanelli followed with three-point showings consisting of two goals and a helper each. Hayden Shin was a force at the face-off for the Bantams, winning 13-of-23 in the circle, while adding eight grounders and a goal for the visitors.
Bates was out-shot by Trinity at a 45-40 pace, with 24 of Trinity's shots on goal, compared to 22 for the Bobcats.
Bates (4-6, 0-5 NESCAC) now looks ahead to Wednesday night when the Bobcats host Bowdoin under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
