HARTFORD, Conn. -- For the first time all season, Bates College women's basketball is in possession of a two-game losing streak as the Bobcats faltered Friday night at Trinity College, 59-45, in NESCAC women's hoops.
With the loss, the garnet and white slips to 7-2Â in conference play (19-4 overall). Despite their recent setback, the Bobcats are still guaranteed at least a third-place finish in the NESCAC standings, and can still clinch the top overall seed with a win Saturday at Wesleyan (3:00 p.m.), along with losses by Bowdoin (vs. Amherst) and Trinity (vs. Tufts).Â
The Bobcats, netting the last four points of the opening 10:00 minutes of action, closed the first quarter with a 16-13 advantage. Neither squad owned a lead of more than three points in a low-scoring second period as the Bantams outscored the Bates, 11-6, to take a slim 24-22 cushion into intermission.
Trinity (17-6, 7-2 NESCAC) would not trail again the rest of the way, opening the second half on a 13-5 spurt to go ahead by 10 (37-27) with 5:02 remaining in the session. The Bantams would maintain that 10-point surplus (44-34) heading into the fourth frame, and stay up by double-digits for the rest of the contest.
Indianna DelRocco and Reilly Campbell dropped in 12 points apiece for the victors. Emma Wax fell just short of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds while Bria Fuller snared 10 boards, to go along with seven points.
Elsa Daulerio continues to shine for Bates as the sophomore secured her sixth double-double of the year with game-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds, complemented by her four rejections. Daulerio also drained a career-high seven free throws in the effort.
