LEWISTON, Maine -- The Department of Athletics is proud to announce the creation of the Bates College Athletics Hall of Fame, and invites the public to submit their nominations for the inaugural class, to be inducted in the fall of 2025. Nominations for this election cycle will be open until January 31st. 

The Bates College Athletics Hall of Fame will honor, pay tribute, and perpetuate the memory of those individuals and teams who, either through participation, support or interest, have made outstanding contributions in the field of intercollegiate athletics and who have helped bring recognition, honor, distinction, and excellence to Bates College. All varsity intercollegiate sports programs in the history of Bates College will be eligible for representation.
 
Eligibility for Induction

• A student-athlete may be nominated at any time beginning ten years after their matriculating class has graduated.
• Coaches, trainers and administrators may be nominated at any time beginning five years after the end of their involvement in Bates athletics in a capacity other than as a student-athlete.
• Nominees may include teams and other groups who have made outstanding contributions to athletics at Bates. Each member of a team or other group shall meet the criteria of student-athlete, coach, trainer, or other individual. If a person is inducted under a team nomination, this does not preclude them from being inducted as an individual.
• All individuals who have brought distinction and honor to Bates Athletics through achievements not related to competition, coaching and/or administration at Bates shall be eligible for induction to the Bates Athletics Hall of Fame. Special achievements should be based on significant contributions to the ideal of intercollegiate athletics at Bates or through service at another college or university and/or involvement and support of the intercollegiate athletics program, and/or significant contributions to sporting culture around the globe.

Membership in the Bates College Athletics Hall of Fame shall be determined by a nine-member committee composed of four alumni members, two coaches, the Senior Woman Administrator, the Director of Athletics, and the Sports Information Director. The Selection Committee shall elect a slate of nominees not to exceed five in any one year. The first five induction cycles will also include up to five "legacy" nominees representing alumni candidates beyond their 50th reunion and coaches, trainers or administrators whose service as a Bates coach ended 50 years or more prior to the commencement of the current induction cycle, in addition to regular nominees. 

The announcement of the inaugural Hall of Fame class will be made in either late May or early June.
