MANAHAWKIN, N.J. -- Bates field hockey seniors
Anna Cote,
Maria Femia, and
Amanda Zerbib were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region II team on Wednesday, in recognition of their remarkable performances that helped the Bobcats break the program record for wins in one season.
Cote (New Gloucester, Maine) was named first team All-Region for the second straight year. She led the Bobcats in points with 32, scoring 13 goals, including eight game-winners. She also dished out a team-high six assists. Cote's 13 goals are the most for a Bobcat field hockey player in one season since
Jane Davis '88 scored 14 goals in 1987.
Femia (Canton, Mass.) is a second team All-Region selection after tallying 15 points (six goals, three assists) at the forward position for Bates. She notched a pair of game-winning goals, both in NESCAC play. A Femia goal helped spark a key 2-1 win over Amherst in September.
Zerbib (Larchmont, N.Y.) was also named second team All-Region. The team captain anchored a Bates defense that stopped 18 Middlebury penalty corners in the NESCAC semifinals on their way to the biggest win in program history. Zerbib dished out the first four assists of her career this year, two coming in NESCAC play, and two coming in the NCAA tournament as the Bobcats advanced to the "Elite 8" for the first time.
These are the first NFHCA All-Region honors of Femia and Zerbib's careers. This marks the second straight year the Bobcats have had three players named All-Region in field hockey.
The NFHCA Division III All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on December 12, followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on December 17 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on December 19.
