FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of Maine Farmington erased a double-digit deficit in the second half of Wednesday's non-conference contest vs. Bates College as the Beavers held on to best their intrastate rival, 84-79, in men's basketball action.
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday before inclement weather forced the postponement.
Trailing by three (20-17) with 7:59 left in the first half, Bates went off on a 17-3 run over the next 3:37 to ahead, 34-23, with 4:22 remaining before intermission.
Marc Begin II netted a free throw with 1:13 to go, allowing the garnet and white to carry a 10-point surplus (39-29) into halftime.

Babacar Pouye slam 4:05 into the second session pushed the Bobcats' lead to 48-37. Things turned sour from that point forward for the road team as UMF chipped away at its deficit over the next 7:24, completing a 22-10 surge to take the lead, 59-58.
Bates was able to knot the score on two subsequent occasions after that, but was unable to regain the lead in the contest. An 8-0 run broke a 61-61 stalemate as the Beavers (9-7) went up 69-61 with 5:00 on the clock. The Bobcats inched to within a single point three times over the final five, but the UMF fended off its guest to seal the victory.
Five players registered double-digit scoring efforts for the victors, led by Anthony Jordan with 17 points.Â
Begin recorded his fourth game of the season with 20+ points as the first-year led all players with 25Â in 37 total minutes.
Simon McCormick followed his teammate with 15 points, including 3-of-7 from long range, in the senior's 30 minutes.
Peter Psyhogeos finished with 14 points on the night.
Chiwer Mayen fell just one point short of a double-double, ending the evening with 10 rebounds and nine points in 20 minutes.
Bates (2-14) returns to NESCAC play Saturday afternoon with a visit to #24 Tufts at 3:00 p.m.
