LEWISTON, Maine -- The 2023 campaign came to a close for both Bates College and Colby College Wednesday as the long-time in-state rivals clashed on historic Garcelon Field in the men's lacrosse season finale.

It would be the Mules that would secure the coveted NESCAC victory as Colby collected a 15-11 triumph over the garnet and white.

Trailing at the half by an 8-6 count, the Bobcats netted three-straight tallies to start the third period and went ahead, 9-8, at the 13:13 mark of the stanza. Colby (4-10, 1-9 NESCAC) countered with four unanswered goals of its own to garner a three-goal lead of 12-9 with 5:44 left in the third.

Bates (1-12, 0-10 NESCAC) could not close the margin any closer than two as the Mules collected three of the final five goals of the contest.

The Bobcats also owned a pair of leads early in the first quarter, including a 4-2 advantage at the end of the session. Colby proceeded to fire in five-straight to start the second for a 7-4 cushion with 10:01 to go before the break.

Jack and Bennett Goller, a pair of brothers from Napa, Calif., controlled the Colby offense with a combined eight points on the day. Jack, the Mules' leading scorer, poured in a game-high five goals to give the senior 34 on the season.

Bennett added a goal and a pair of helpers in the win. Ryan Darby and Nick Hassan authored hat tricks for the Mules.

Alex Horowitz (Jr.-Manhattan Beach, Calif.) ended his junior season with three goals of his own for the Bobcats. Fellow junior, Wil Masterson (York, Maine), pocketed six points on the afternoon with two tallies and four assists. Henry Bruininks (So.-Seattle, Wash.) closes the year with his first multi-goal game of the season.

Colby controlled the shot column with a 54-33 surplus, including a 29-17 lead on net.

The Mules also dominated the face-off, winning 21 of 29 attempts. Justin Turley, Colby's lone face-off specialist on the day, scooped up 12 ground balls, as did teammate, Brooks Rayment.

Matt Suffredini, who played 38:00 in relief of Colby starting goalkeeper, Will Rickards, earned the win with five total saves. First-year goalie, Drew Nyhus (Lake Oswego, Ore.), despite making 14 saves over 60:00, suffered the loss.
