LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior
Henry Jamieson racked up five hits and five RBI to lead the Bates baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Skidmore Saturday afternoon at Leahey Field.
On Senior Day, the Bobcats (14-12) honored Jamieson (St. Simons Island, Ga.),
Drew Fallon (Mansfield, Mass.),
Alex Ross (Ridgefield, Conn.),
Tyler Attal (Los Angeles) and
John Nowak (Pelham, N.Y.) between games of the twin bill. All five played key roles in Saturday's wins.
Bates is back in action against Skidmore (19-11) Sunday at 11am.
Game One: Bates 8, Skidmore 5
Junior
Luke Linnehan allowed just three runs in six and two thirds innings pitched to lead the Bobcats to an 8-5 win over Skidmore in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Linnehan (Hingham, Mass.) struck out six batters and walked just one in the victory.
Down 1-0, the Bobcats scored three times against Skidmore starter Ameer Hasan (4-2) in the bottom of the third. First-year
Gibby Sullivan (Yarmouth, Maine) singled through the right side to start the frame. One out later, junior
Jack Brennan (West Hartford, Conn.) singled and junior
Christopher Cimino (Scarborough, Maine) drew a walk to load the bases.
Attal reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Sullivan, and Jamieson doubled home Brennan and Attal for a 3-1 Bates lead.
The Bobcats added to the edge in the bottom of the fourth. Nowak reached on an infield single to start the frame and sophomore
Ben Gesmondi (Portsmouth, R.I.) doubled him to third. One out later, Fallon drove in Nowak with a sacrifice fly to right and Brennan singled home Gesmondi, making the score 5-1.
Bates added another insurance run in the fifth, this time against Skidmore reliever Peter Martin. With one out, Jamieson singled to right-center and stole second. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when sophomore
Brandon Biggane (Rensselaer, N.Y.) singled to center.
Linnehan (3-4) retired the side in order in the sixth before running into trouble in the seventh. Brendan O'Neill singled to start the frame and one out later Jackson Hornung tripled him home to cut the Bates lead to 6-2. A walk and a passed ball plated a second run, and a Bates error brought the tying run to the plate with two outs.
Junior
Jack Potash (Weston, Conn.) entered the game and got Skidmore's Sam Kornet to ground out, getting Bates out of the frame with a 6-3 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Attal launched his fifth home run of the season, a blast out to left field, extending the edge to 7-3. Jamieson followed with a single to left. He stole second and scored on a two-out RBI double from Nowak.
The 8-3 lead held up despite a two-run home run from Skidmore's Anthony Petersen in the ninth.
The Thoroughbreds tallied 14 hits in game one while Bates finished with 13. Hornung and Petersen finished with three hits each, with Hornung finishing a home run shy of the cycle. Jamieson went 3-4 in game one with two runs scored, a double, two RBI, and two stolen bases. Brennan, Attal, Biggane, and Nowak tallied two hits apiece.

Game Two: Bates 6, Skidmore 5
The Bobcats scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to rally for a 6-5 walk-off win over Skidmore in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
With Bates down 5-4, Cimino got the rally started in the bottom of the seventh with a double to left. Attal singled Cimino to third and promptly stole second base. The Thoroughbreds intentionally walked Jamieson and Biggane hit a ball to third that took in an in-between hop under the glove of the charging Eddie Galvao, scoring Cimino and Attal and winning the game.
Sophomore
Matthew Shrake (Chicago) got the final out of the top of the seventh to earn the win for Bates out of the bullpen.
Ross got his first collegiate start on the mound and performed well, tossing three innings and striking out two. He left with the Bobcats ahead by a score of 4-2 thanks to a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
With Bates down 2-0, the Bobcats immediately tied the score in the bottom of the first. Brennan reached on an infield single to start the frame and one out later Attal reached on a dropped third strike. With runners at the corners, Attal stole second, and the throw to the bag got away, allowing Brennan to score from third. Jamieson doubled in Attal and the score stood 2-2 through one.
In the bottom of the third, Cimino got the offense going with a two-out walk. Attal singled him to third and Jamieson singled in both runners for a 4-2 lead.
The Thoroughbreds chipped away at the Bates edge, scoring one in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh, grabbing the 5-4 edge on a Zachary Leiderman pinch-hit RBI single. Shrake (2-1) got the next batter to fly out, ending the inning and setting up the Bates game-winning rally.
Jamieson went 2-3 with a double and three RBI in game two while Attal finished 2-4 with a double and three runs scored.
