HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Bates College men's tennis, #35 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings, continues to surge as the Bobcats handled Hamilton College, 8-1, on the road to earn the garnet and white its first NESCAC victory of the season.
The Bobcats opened the morning match with a clean 3-0 sweep in doubles play.Â
Cam Davis-Kania (Sr.-Middlefield, Conn.) and
Alexander Gujarathi (Jr.-Plymouth, Mass.) doubled up Coby Feldman and Connor Griff by a score of 8-4 in the No. 1 slot.
Matthew Danielson (Jr.-St. Petersburg, Fla.) and
Leo Kupferman (Sr.-Montclair, N.J.) cruised to a No. 2 triumph vs. Hamilton's Anson Anderson and Lorenzo Gunningham. The No. 3 tandem of
Teddy Koide (Sr.-Morristown, N.J.) and
Nick Forester (Sr.-Falmouth, Maine), like their No.1 counterparts, won with an 8-4 decision vs. Gianni Esposito and Nicholas Gritz.
In singles play, Gujarathi (6-2, 6-4 vs. Anderson), Kupferman (6-4, 7-6 (4) vs. Feldman), Forester (7-6 (11), 6-4 vs. Matt Martok), Koide (6-4, 7-5 vs. Eric Stein), and Danielson (5-7, 6-2, 10-6 vs. Gunningham) contributed victories at positions two through six, respectively, for Bates (4-5, 1-3 NESCAC).
Hamilton falls to 2-7 (2-3 NESCAC) after the home defeat.
Bates gets right back at it Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. visit to #21 Amherst College.
