LEWISTON, Maine -- Top-tandem
Cameron Kania and
Alexander Gujarathi proved victorious for Bates College in No. 1 doubles action, and
Leo Kupferman and
Matthew Danielson recorded wins for the garnet-and-white in singles play, as men's tennis opened NESCAC play Saturday vs. #4 Tufts in the Merrill Gymnasium.
Kania (Sr.-Middlefield, Conn.) and Gujarathi (Jr.-Plymouth, Mass.) defeated the Tufts duo of Derin Acaroglu and Vuk Vuksanovic by a score of 8-6 to provide the pairing its second doubles triumph of the spring (2/21 at Florida Southern).
Kupferman (Sr.-Montclair, N.J.), at No. 3 singles, outlasted Alex Ganchev in a 3-6, 6-4 (10-4) thriller. At No. 6, Danielson dismissed Javier Gonzalez in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
The Jumbos ultimately defeated the Bobcats, 6-3, in the 2022-23 dual-match debut for the program (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC).
Bates (1-3, 0-1 NESCAC) will take the court again next Saturday with another conference home match, this time vs. #6 Williams. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m. in the Merrill Gymnasium.
