LEWISTON, Maine -- Hosting its second NESCAC men's tennis tilt in as many days, Bates College welcomed Middlebury College Sunday to Merrill Gymnasium as the #4 Panthers (4-1, 2-1 NESCAC) defeated the host-Bobcats by a score of 7-2.
Despite the outcome, the garnet and white enjoyed a pair of highlights on the day with victories in both doubles and singles action.
The senior tandem of
Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine) and
Teddy Koide (Morristown, N.J.) scored an 8-5 win over the Middlebury pairing of Julian Wu and Zihao Yuan at No. 3 doubles.
In No. 2 singles action,
Alexander Gujarathi (Jr.-Plymouth, Mass.) needed three sets (6-3, 5-7, 6-2) to shake off Aidan Harris and earn the point for the Bobcats.
Leo Kupferman (Sr.-Montclair, N.J.) succumbed to Middlebury's Neel Epstein in a tie-breaker at No. 3 singles: 6-3, 3-6, (4-10). Forester did the same at No. 4, falling to Robby Ward by scores of 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), (4-10).
