WINTER PARK, Fla. --
Leo Kupferman (Montclair, N.J.) secured a thrilling three-set triumph at No. 3 singles for the Bobcats Saturday as men's tennis concluded its annual Florida spring fling with a match at Division II Rollins College.
The Bates College senior bested Rollins' Mikkel Baumann 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) for the garnet and white's lone point of the afternoon in a 6-1 triumph for the host-Tars.
Rollins (4-1) opened the day by proving victorious in each of the three doubles contests. Baumann and Efe Comu defeated the Bobcats' top tandem of
Cameron Kania (Sr.-Middlefield, Conn.) and
Alexander Gujarathi (Jr.-Plymouth, Mass.), 6-1, at #1 doubles.
Luke Quaynor and Moritz Stenzer paired up for a 6-4 win at #2 over the Bates duo of
Matthew Danielson (Jr.-St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Kupferman. Phillip McMurray and Charlie Putrino topped seniors
Teddy Koide (Morristown, N.J.) and
Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine), 6-3, at #3 doubles.
At #6 singles, Danielson defeated McMurray in the first set of their match, 6-3, before the Rollins junior evened the score with a 6-2 win in set two.
It would be McMurray that would prove victorious, securing the resulting tie-breaker, 10-4, en route to the triumph.
