CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates women's rowing team's first varsity eight placed seventh out of 35 crews in the collegiate eights race, pacing the Bobcats Sunday at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
Led by senior captain coxswain
Lucy Del Col (Wellesley, Mass.) and first-year stroke
Maggie Gill (Tenants Harbor, Maine) the 1V navigated the serpentine 4,800-meter course on the Charles River in 18:25.532. The Bobcats finished fourth among NESCAC schools as Tufts won the race in 18:03.969. Bates finished ahead of defending NCAA champion Wellesley, as the Blue 1V crossed the finish line in 18:31.543, good for 10th place.
Meanwhile, the second varsity eight finished in 18th place in the collegiate eights race with a time of 19:09.971. Led by senior coxswain
Oli Seline (Delaware, Ohio) and first-year stroke
Megan O'Donnell (Wayland, Mass.), the Bobcats finished third among the 2V boats in the race.
Bates also entered a boat in the collegiate fours race on Sunday. Led by sophomore coxswain
Audrey Kamine (Washington, D.C.) and junior stroke
Rylee Eaton (Little Deer Isle, Maine), the Bobcats finished in 16th place out of 38 boats with a time of 21:11.183. Vanderbilt University won the race in 19:39.080.
The Head of the Charles is the lone regatta of the fall for the Bates rowing program. The Bobcats will return to action on March 23 when they race Columbia University.
