LEWISTON, Maine -- Despite playing without their top two scorers, the Bates men's basketball team rolled to a 94-65 win over the University of Maine-Farmington Tuesday night at Alumni Gym.
All 14 players who saw the court scored for Bates (6-10) and the Bobcats finished one shy of the program record for made three-pointers in a game, knocking down 18 threes in 35 attempts on the night.
Sophomore
Grant Nadeau (Gorham, Maine) led the way with a team and career-high 17 points on 6-8 shooting, knocking down all five of his three-point attempts. First-year
Elliott Cravitz (Denver, Colo.) added a career-high 15 points on 5-8 shooting. Fellow first-year
Brady Coyne (Falmouth, Maine) also finished in double figures, tallying 10 points and knocking down 3-6 from long range. The Bobcats also got nine points and four assists from first-year
David Omasombo (Lewiston, Maine), who knocked down 3-7 from outside.
In addition to their success from outside, the Bobcats threw down a
trio of dunks, thrilling the Alumni Gym crowd. Junior
Devin Harris (Bear, Del.) raced down the far side of the court early in the first half, received a pass from junior
Simon McCormick (Whitefield, Maine) and went airborne from outside the paint, delivering a spectacular one-handed dunk that put the Bobcats up 10-8 with 17:36 remaining in the first half. Later in the game, first-year
Chiwer Mayen (Lewiston, Maine) added a pair of dunks, one after he secured a rebound under the rim and went up strong for the slam, another when he soared to the rim and delivered a put-back dunk that brought the crowd to its feet.
With the score tied at 10, Coyne hit a three-pointer with 17:14 left in the first half, putting Bates ahead of the Beavers (9-6) for good.
The game remained close for a while, as the Bobcats held on to a 17-15 edge with 14:30 remaining until halftime. Then another Coyne three started a 9-0 run for the hosts, and the Bobcats went up 26-15 on a free throw from senior
Cam Riley (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) with 12:19 to go in the half.
Bates dominated the remainder of the contest, leading by as many as 34 points midway through the second half.
The Bobcats shot 52.9% from the floor and 51.4% from long range. UMF finished 20-53 (37.7%) from the field, led by Jack Kane, who scored a game-high 19 points on 6-14 shooting. He also surpassed the 1,000-points mark for his career. Kyle Donlin added 17 points on 5-10 shooting for the Beavers.
Bates is back in action Saturday at 3pm when the Bobcats welcome Tufts to Alumni Gym.
