No. 13 field hockey rolls to 6-0 win at Thomas College

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Junior Kami Lambert and sophomore Anna Lindeis scored two goals apiece to lead the No. 13 nationally ranked Bates field hockey team to a 6-0 victory at Thomas College Wednesday night in non-conference action.

The Bobcats (5-3) outshot the Terriers (3-5) by a count of 32-2 on the evening, with Bates tallying 20 shots on goal. Thomas goalies Brennan Pinto and Elise Syphers each played well, with Pinto making six saves and Syphers making seven. Senior Grace Biddle (State College, Pa.) played the first 30 minutes and recorded one save to earn the win.

Wednesday's contest stood scoreless until the 21st minute when the Bobcats earned a penalty corner. Junior Ella Blum (South Salem, N.Y.) delivered the insert and Lindeis (New Canaan, Conn.) found Lambert (Augusta, Maine) for the 1-0 lead.

Another penalty corner in the 24th minute led to a shot by Blum, which was denied by Pinto. However, Lambert cleaned up for her second goal of the night and her fifth goal of the season.

In the 30th minute, the Bobcats converted on yet another penalty corner. This time, first-year Brooke Moloney-Kolenberg (Winchester, Mass.) delivered the insert and junior captain Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine) found sophomore Maria Femia (Canton, Mass.) for the latter's fourth goal of the season. It marked Cote's team-leading fifth assist of the year.

Bates wasted no time adding to the lead in the third quarter. In the 31st minute, junior captain Sarah Bussell (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) connected with sophomore Anna Cote (Auburn, Maine) for the fourth goal of the evening for Bates. Cote and Lambert are tied for the team lead so far this year with five goals apiece.

Moloney-Kolenberg earned an assist in the 41st minute when she found Lindeis on a penalty corner insert for the 5-0 lead. An unassisted Lindeis goal in the 43rd minute capped off the scoring for Bates.

The Bobcats earned nine penalty corners, with eight of them coming in the second quarter.

Bates returns to NESCAC play Saturday when the Bobcats host No. 5 nationally ranked Trinity at 11am.
