CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates rowing teams returned to the Charles River Racing Series on Saturday, with the women taking on the Radcliffe Lightweights and Boston College and the men squaring off against MIT.

In the men's races, the varsity four earned an impressive win over the Engineers. Led by sophomore coxswain Celia Tolan (New York City), the crew of first-year Micah Johnson (Brentwood, N.H.), first-year Solomon Sakakeeny-Smith (Brookline, Mass.), first-year Tom White (Duxbury, Mass.), and junior Samuel Faasen (Dover, N.H.) raced to the finish in 7:35.6. It made for an open water win over MIT, as the hosts finished in 7:58.6.

On the women's side, the varsity four picked up a win as well. Led by sophomore coxswain Olivia Seline (Delaware, Ohio), the crew of junior Darya Lee (Andover, Mass.), junior Josephine Stevens (Buffalo, N.Y.), junior Eloise Botka (Cambridge, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Everett (Fair Haven, N.J.), the Bobcats took on the Eagles in a one-on-one race that saw Bates win by open water in 8:01.8. Boston College finished in 8:28.28.

The women's and men's rowing teams return to action Sunday morning for their lone home regatta of the year, The President's Cup, against Bowdoin and Colby.
