LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's tennis team won a pair of doubles matches but visiting No. 24 nationally ranked Colby College controlled singles play, defeating the Bobcats 6-3 Saturday morning at the Wallach Tennis Center.
Junior captain
Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine) had a terrific day for the Bobcats. He teamed with sophomore
Alexander Gujarathi (Plymouth, Mass.) to defeat Joey Barrett and Jake Cohen by a count of 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Then he followed that up with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jan Wenger at No. 1 singles.Â
Meanwhile, sophomore
Matthew Danielson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) teamed with fellow sophomore
Nikesh Desai (Hopkinton, Mass.) to defeat Wenger and James Bogdanovic by a count of 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.Â
Despite a 2-1 lead headed into singles play, the Bobcats (3-9, 1-6 NESCAC) couldn't secure the victory, with the Mules (8-4, 4-2 NESCAC) winning five of six singles matches. Junior captain
Leo Kupferman (Montclair, N.J.) played well at No. 3 singles, falling in three sets by a count of 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-10 to Cohen.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 27 when they host Bowdoin at 4pm.
