MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Bates men's tennis team took on Wesleyan Sunday in NESCAC action, falling 7-2 despite a number of very close matches.
Two Bobcats emerged victorious, with junior
Leo Kupferman (Montclair, N.J.) winning 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 10-6 in a three-set battle at No. 3 singles against Wesleyan's Ben Mitchell. Meanwhile, junior captain
Teddy Koide (Morristown, N.J.) defeated Wesleyan's Max Lee 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 at No. 5 singles.
Kupferman and Koide won their respective singles matches after giving Zach Lieb and Harry Portnoy all they could handle at No. 2 doubles, falling 8-6.
Junior captain
Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine) competed in a pair of very close contests on Sunday, teaming with sophomore
Nikesh Desai (Hopkinton, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles and taking Clay Gaieski and Max Lustgarten of Wesleyan to the limit before falling 8-7 (7-4).

Alexander Gujarathi (Plymouth, Mass.) both took their opponents to a third set in singles at No. 1 and 2 respectively. Forester fell in an epic battle with Wesleyan's Peter Anker by a count of  7-6 (13-11), 1-6, 10-12 and Gujarathi lost 6-1, 1-6, 5-10 to Lieb.Â
The Bobcats (3-7, 1-4 NESCAC) are back in action this this Thursday when they visit Tufts for a match that gets underway at 3pm.
