TROY, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Jack Brennan had a big day at the plate, including his first collegiate home run, but the Bates baseball team got swept in a doubleheader at RPI on Sunday, dropping game one 6-2 and game two 9-6.
The Bobcats (2-4) hope to get back on the winning track Wednesday at 3:30pm when they visit Endicott.
Game One: RPI 6, Bates 2 (7 innings)
The Engineers scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to take control of game one of Sunday's twin bill, defeating the Bobcats 6-2.
Bates got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the second. Junior
Henry Jamieson (St. Simons Island, Ga.) drew a walk to start the frame. One out later, senior
Antonio Jareno (Marietta, Ga.) doubled Jamieson to third. Senior captain
Kevin Lucey (Topsfield, Mass.) followed with a single through the left side, driving in Jamieson and putting Bates up 1-0.Â

Teddie Nelson (Marshfield, Mass.) tossed two innings of shutout ball before the Engineers pushed across a run in the third when a leadoff walk came around to score, tying the game at one.
RPI's Jack Moncur delivered a two-run double in the fourth to give the hosts a 3-1 advantage, which they did not relinquish. Nelson (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs in four innings of work, striking out five batters.Â
Jake Defayette hit the first of his two home runs on the day to give RPI a 4-1 lead in the fifth. Later that inning, Martin Marinchev drove in the Engineers' fifth run with a groundout, before Moncur capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to right.
Down 6-1, the Bobcats got one run back in the seventh. Lucey reached on an error and junior
John Nowak (Pelham, N.Y.) drove him in with a single down the right field line. But the Bobcats did not score any more runs as the Engineers won the seven-inning contest.
Chris Grome (1-0) allowed just one run on four hits over 6.0 innings to pick up the win for RPI. He struck out 11 batters, while walking two, before Thomas Neuman worked the seventh to secure the victory for the Engineers.
Game Two: RPI 9, Bates 6
The Bobcats fell behind 5-0 in the first inning and couldn't complete a late rally, falling 9-6 to the Engineers in game two of Sunday's doubleheader.
After going 1-3 in game one, Brennan (West Hartford, Conn.) got the Bobcats on the board in game two with a solo home run to left field in the third inning.
Down 7-3, the Bobcats scored three times in the eighth to cut the deficit to one.
With one out, Lucey doubled to left center. Senior
Bryan Gotti (Westwood, Mass.) reached on an infield single and first-year
Max Lucas (Upton, Mass.) walked to load the bases.Â

Ben Genser (Newton, Mass.) drove in Lucey with a ground out to short. Then Brennan reached on an error, plating two more runs for Bates.
But the Engineers struck back with a pair of unearned runs in the eighth, extending their lead to 9-6.

Brennan Kelley (Huntersville, N.C.) drew a walk to start the ninth but the Bobcats couldn't drive him in.Â
Ben Koomey (1-0) earned the victory for the Engineers, allowing two runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings. He struck out six and walked two.
