INDIANAPOLIS -- The Bates swimming and diving program wrapped up the NCAA Championships on Saturday, with both the women and men earning top-25 national finishes.
The women scored 113.50 points over the course of the four-day meet, taking 14th place out of 46 scoring teams. Bates finished a whopping 58.50 points ahead of 15th-place Wheaton (Mass.) and just 3.5 points behind 13th-place NYU and 4.5 points back of 12th-place Amherst.
The men, despite only sending two swimmers, took 24th place out of 43 scoring teams. The Bobcats tallied 35 points, just two points behind 23rd-place Whitworth and one point ahead of 25th-place SUNY Geneseo.
On Saturday, junior
Nathan Berry (Augusta, Maine) broke
Teddy Pender's '18 school record in the 100 yard freestyle, winning his prelim race in 44.17 seconds. Berry took eighth overall in the event, recording a finals time of 45.09.
First-year
Sophie Cassily (Rye, N.H.) earned a spot on the podium for the women as well on Saturday. Cassily placed eighth in the 200 yard backstroke with a prelim time of 1:59.84 and a finals time of 2:00.12.
