WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates men's tennis team gave the No. 7 nationally ranked Williams College Ephs all they could handle in an 8-1 road loss Saturday afternoon.
In doubles play, junior
Leo Kupferman (Montclair, N.J.) and junior captain
Teddy Koide (Morristown, N.J.) lost in a tiebreaker at No. 3, 8-7 (7-5) to the Ephs' Michael Medvedev and Jack Truwit.
The Bobcats also played well at No. 1 and 2 doubles, falling 8-4 in both matches.
After losing at No. 1 doubles, sophomore
Alexander Gujarathi (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up a win at No. 3 singles, prevailing 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 over Karan Amin of Williams.
Junior captain
Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine) didn't play a doubles match on Saturday, but did play at No. 1 singles, and nearly rallied to beat Chase Cohen before falling 6-1, 4-6, 10-5.
Sophomore
Matthew Danielson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) also fought hard, both at No. 1 doubles with Gujarathi and at No. 4 singles, where he made Shawn Berdia work hard in the first set before ultimately falling 7-5, 6-1.
The Bobcats (1-3, 0-1 NESCAC) look to bounce back Sunday afternoon when they visit Middlebury for a match that gets underway at 2pm.
