COCOA, Fla. -- Sophomores
Matthew Danielson and
Alexander Gujarathi prevailed at No. 1 doubles Wednesday in an 8-1 loss for the Bates men's tennis team to Eastern Florida State.
Playing at No. 1 for the second straight match, Danielson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Gujarathi (Plymouth, Mass.) won a thriller by a count of 8-7 (7-5) over Jaewoo Choi and Enric Porcar. But the Bobcats couldn't secure any other points on the day against the Titans (2-0), an NJCAA institution. The game did not count towards the Bobcats' win-loss record as EFSU is not an NCAA institution.
Junior captain
Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine) won his first game against opponent Santino Morel Reider at No. 2 singles before falling in three sets. Gujarathi won his first game at No. 3 singles before having to retire.
The Bobcats wrap up their season opening trip on Saturday when they take on NCAA Division II opponent Florida Southern at 3pm.
