WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates men's basketball team went cold from the field in the second half in an 86-52 loss to Emory Saturday night at the UAA / NESCAC Challenge, hosted on the campus of Colby College.
The Bobcats (3-4) hung with the Eagles (5-1) in the first half, rallying from a 28-11 deficit to trail by just six points, 45-39, at intermission.
But Bates shot just 3-32 from the floor and 0-14 from three-point range in the second half, and Emory cruised to the victory.
Junior
Simon McCormick (Whitefield, Maine) paced the Bobcats with 13 points on 4-7 shooting. Senior
Steph Baxter (Worcester, Mass.) added 11 points, six rebounds, and a team-high four assists.
Four Eagles finished in double figures in the points column. Cale Martens led the way with a game-high 17 points and Mason Johnson added 12 points on 6-12 shooting. Albert Fallas chipped in 11 points on 4-6 shooting and Logan Shanahan finished with 10 points.
Emory dominated in the post, scoring 44 points in the paint and holding Bates to 12. The Eagles were hot from outside as well, hitting 10-23 from long range.
Bates turned the ball over 19 times in the loss.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday at the UAA / NESCAC Challenge when they take on Brandeis. Tip is set for 2pm.
