No. 14 field hockey tripped up 3-0 by No. 18 Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Camille Donaghey scored a pair of goals and No. 18 nationally ranked Hamilton blanked No. 14 Bates field hockey 3-0 Saturday morning at Goodfriend Field.

The Bobcats (6-5, 2-4 NESCAC) tallied the same number of shots on goal (five) as the Continentals (7-3, 3-3 NESCAC) but the home team jumped ahead in the first quarter and did not look back.

In the fifth minute of action, Hamilton's Lilly Truchon found Tracey Stafford for the latter's fifth goal of the season. That turned out to be all the Continentals needed. But they added another tally in the 31st minute when they took advantage of a penalty corner. Donaghey delivered the insert and Alana King got it back to her for the goal.

Maura Holden was able to find Donaghey to cap off the scoring for the home team in the 59th minute.

Junior captain Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine) paced the Bobcats with four shots, including three on goal.

Abby Griffin made five saves in the cage for the Continentals and senior Grace Biddle (State College, Pa.) made a pair of saves for Bates.

The Bobcats earned 11 penalty corners to Hamilton's 10, but Bates was not able to turn any of them into points.

Bates is back in action Sunday when they visit Wesleyan. The action gets underway at 1pm.
