Football's Tony Hooks named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week

HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior linebacker and captain Tony Hooks was named the NESCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, after his record-breaking performance in Bates' 21-14 victory over Bowdoin on Saturday.

Hooks (New Rochelle, N.Y.) had a game-high 23 tackles (9 solo, 1 for loss) in Bates' 10th victory over Bowdoin in the last 11 seasons. He broke a program record set in 1996 by Mike Holte '97, when Holte made 21 total tackles against Colby.

Hooks, a first team All-NESCAC selection a year ago, is the most prolific tackler in the conference, averaging 12.2 per game.

Bates' last NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week was linebacker Spencer Adams '23 on Oct. 10, 2021.

Hooks and the Bobcats host Middlebury this Saturday at 1pm.
