Roy's career-high 32 points propels women's basketball to 91-82 win over Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Senior Mia Roy scored a career-high 32 points and two Bobcats recorded double-doubles in the Bates women's basketball team's 91-82 win at Wesleyan in NESCAC action Sunday afternoon.

It's the most points the Bobcats (8-3, 1-0 NESCAC) have scored in a conference game since pouring in 103 against Connecticut College in 2002.

Roy (Bedford, N.H.) finished 9-16 from the field and made all 10 of her free throws in the victory. She also hit four of eight from three-point range.

Senior Ariana Dalia (Brick, N.J.) played all 40 minutes and finished with a double-double, tallying 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dalia made 10 of 12 from the free throw line.

Junior Brianna Gadaleta (Chappaqua, N.Y.) also recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Sophomore twin sisters Morgan Kennedy and Alyson Kennedy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) turned in strong performances as well, scoring 14 and nine points respectively.

Junior captain Meghan Graff (South Portland, Maine) scored six points and dished out a career-high 10 assists for the Bobcats.

Four Wesleyan players finished in double figures. Maddie Clark paced the Cardinals (6-8, 0-2 NESCAC) with 19 points. Caleigh Ryan tallied 13 points and Abby Gray and Marina Petruzzi both finished with 12 points on the afternoon.

Roy knocked down a jumper with 8:08 to go in the first quarter to put Bates up 2-0 and the Bobcats never trailed on their way to victory. The Bobcats made 26 of 31 free throws, which proved to be the difference, as Wesleyan only recorded 10 made free throws in 13 attempts.

The Cardinals actually out-scored the Bobcats in the second half but a dominant first quarter put Bates up 23-12 through the first 10 minutes of action. Bates shot 9-16 from the field in the opening quarter as a team.

The Bobcats led 43-28 at halftime but the Cardinals trimmed the Bates lead to 10 through three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, both offenses were dominant, with Wesleyan putting up 31 points and Bates tallying 30. Roy drilled a three just 30 seconds in to put the Bobcats up 13. Clark answered with a three of her own and the Cardinals got to within nine with 7:54 remaining in regulation on a Gray three-pointer.

But that's as close as Wesleyan got the rest of the way. Roy answered with a jumper and two Dalia free throws put Bates up by 13 with 6:47 left. The teams mostly traded points down the stretch.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday night when they visit Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Tip is set for 5:30pm.
