BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bates junior
Nick Forester won back-to-back matches to reach Saturday's Round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships, before bowing out to fourth-seeded Stan Morris of Middlebury.
Forester (Falmouth, Maine), a 2021 All-NESCAC selection and one of the players seeded between ninth and 16th in the 64-player tournament, began Friday with an opening-round 6-2, 6-2 victory over Wesleyan's Ben Mitchell. He moved on to defeat Paris Pentousis of Tufts in the Round of 32, 6-3, 6-3, setting up the match with Morris. Morris prevailed 6-4, 6-3 over Forester to advance to the quarterfinals.
Bates sophomore
Alexander Gujarathi (Plymouth, Mass.) also competed for Bates in the singles tournament, falling in the first round to Colby's Sam Henry by a 6-3, 6-1Â score.
Bates also fielded four doubles teams for the tournament's doubles championship, with Forester teaming up with sophomore
Nikesh Desai (Hopkinton, Mass.) on a first-round victory. Forester and Desai defeated William Turchetta and Shaw Rhinelander of Amherst College by an 8-6 score, advancing to the Round of 32 where they fell to the third-seeded duo, Noah Lilienthal and Ben Mitchell of Wesleyan.Â
Elsewhere in the doubles bracket, Bates' seeded duo of junior
Cameron Kania (Middlefield, Conn.) and junior
Leo Kupferman (Montclair, N.J.) received a first-round bye then fell to Amherst's Harris Foulkes and Edred Opie 8-2 in the Round of 32. Sophomore

Teddy Koide (Morristown, N.J.) lost in the first round by an 8-6 score to Babson's Tyler Zhang and Gabriel Cestero, while sophomore
Matthew Danielson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and first-year
Paul Zhou lost 8-0 to Harry Portnoy and Peter Anker of Wesleyan.
Bates men's tennis will host the Wallach Men's Invitational Oct. 9-10 at the Wallach Tennis Center and Merrill Gymnasium.
