LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team cruised to a 5-0 win over visiting Connecticut College for its first NESCAC victory of 2021. Senior
Grace Hoehl (South Burlington, Vt.) logged two goals, and sophomore
Kami Lambert (Augusta, Maine) added two assists.
Just 28 seconds into the second quarter, sophomore
Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine) broke through for the Bobcats (2-2, 1-2 NESCAC) connecting on a cross from Lambert for her first goal of the season. Just under three minutes later, Lambert set up senior
Bridget Thompson (Newtown, Pa.) to make it 2-0. It was Thompson's first goal this season.
In the 36th minute,
Paige Cote came inches away from registering her second goal of the game, blasting a shot off the right post. The Camels (0-3, 0-2 NESCAC) were whistled for a foul in the 39th minute, and the Bobcats were awarded a penalty stroke, which senior captainÂ
Riley Burns (Sterling, Mass.) drilled into the back of the cage for her second goal of the season, giving Bates a 3-0 lead. Connecticut College had its lone shot on goal come in the final minute of the third. Elektra Roger fired a shot on the right side of the goal, but junior captain
Grace Biddle (State College, Pa.) was there to deny the chance with a kick save.
In the 55th minute, Hoehl tallied her first goal of the afternoon off a pass from first-year
Anna Cote (Auburn, Maine). Hoehl notched her second of the day and fourth of the season, just under five minutes later, tipping in a blast from first-year
Anna Lindeis (New Canaan, Conn.) after a corner taken by Burns.
Biddle played the entire game in goal for the Bobcats, and stopped the lone shot she faced to secure the shutout.
The Bobcats registered a 34-1 advantage in shots and tallied 14 penalty corners, while the Camels did not record a corner in the game. Jackie Mountford played all 60 minutes in goal for Connecticut College and finished with 19 saves.
Bates will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 21, when they travel to take on the University of New England in a non-conference contest at 7 p.m.
