BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The Bates field hockey team won in a shutout for the second game in a row Tuesday night, picking up a 1-0 non-conference victory at the University of New England.
First-year midfielder
Anna Cote (Auburn, Maine) netted her first college goal to provide all the scoring needed by the Bobcats (3-2), who were coming off a 5-0 victory over Connecticut College on Saturday.
Junior captain
Grace Biddle (State College, Pa.) made three saves in her conference-leading second straight shutout in goal for the Bobcats.
It was the first field hockey game played between the two Maine schools, and it was evenly played. Bates had a 9-7 advantage in shots and 4-3 in shots on goal, with UNE holding a 5-4 edge in penalty corners.
Cote scored unassisted in the 25th minute of the game, giving her five points on the young season to tie for second on the team with senior
Riley Burns (Sterling, Mass.) in that category. Cote leads Bates with three assists.
Sophomore
Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine), Anna's sister, took a team-high three shots, two of them saved by UNE goalie Lindsay Pych, who finished with three saves.
With no NESCAC games scheduled for Bates this weekend, the Bobcats will play at No. 14 nationally ranked Babson on Friday at 5pm.
