LAKELAND, Fla. – First-year Cameron Kania earned a win for the Bates men's tennis team at No. 2 singles, but the Bobcats dropped their match to Division II Florida Southern 6-1 today.
Bates is now 1-2 this season, while the No. 18 Moccasins improve to 2-1.
Doubles action began with a 1-1 split, as Kania (Middlefield, Conn.) and first-year Leo Kupferman (Montclair, N.J.) won at No. 1 6-4, but the Mocs picked up wins at Nos. 2 and 3 for the point.
Florida Southern notched victories at the No. 1 singles and Nos. 3-6. Kania earned the Bobcats' singles win at No. 2, topping Oscar Sohl 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9).
Bates will be back in action on March 11, when they host MIT for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
