WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College held the Bates women's basketball team to 26.7% shooting and defeated the Bobcats 51-44 Friday night in NESCAC action.
The Mules (7-11, 2-4 NESCAC) outscored Bates (9-9, 1-4 NESCAC) 11-5 in the first quarter. Bates kept it close in the second but Colby took a 24-16 lead at half. Colby never surrendered that lead down the stretch.
Colby had three players score in double figures on the night and another was one point shy. Brooke Guiffre and Ainsley Burns led the way for the Mules with 11 points apiece. Guiffre was 4-9 from the field and Burns added six rebounds. Alisha Aube pitched in with 10 points and eight rebounds. Grace Coutu was one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. She went 3-5 from the field.
Sophomore Mia Roy (Bedford, N.H.) paced the Bobcats with a game-high 16 points. Sophomore Meghan Graff (South Portland, Maine) was close behind with 15 points, shooting 2-3 from three. Graff is second in the conference with 16.3 points per game.
Colby was only down once in the game when the Mules were losing by two points at the nine minute mark in the first quarter. Colby's largest lead was 13 points.
The Mules had 24 points in the paint to Bates' 10 and 11 points off the bench. Colby out-rebounded the Bobcats 55-33.
Bates visits Bowdoin Saturday at 3pm.
