Kauppila wins eighth straight singles match as men's tennis falls to No. 18 Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Playing against their second top-20 team in as many days, the Bates men's tennis team fell 8-1 at No. 18 Tufts University in a NESCAC match on Wednesday.

Bates junior Jacob Kauppila (Chesterfield, Mo.) won again at No. 2 singles, his eighth straight singles victory. Kauppila defeated Paris Pentousis 6-3 in the first set before Pentousis retired from the match, trailing 2-1 in the second set.

The Jumbos (8-7, 4-4 NESCAC) won at the other five singles positions in straight sets. In the most competitive matchups, Bates junior Nick Glover (Austin, Texas) fell 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5 to Jack Moldenhauer, and senior Ben Eckardt (Montgomery, N.J.) lost 6-3, 6-4 to Isaac Gorelik at third singles.

Bates (5-11, 3-4 NESCAC) finishes the regular season and conference play Saturday at No. 10 Williams.
