LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 25 nationally ranked Bates men's tennis team evened its NESCAC record to 2-2 Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 conference victory over Trinity College.
Bates (4-6, 2-2 NESCAC) swept the three doubles matches and won five out of six singles matches in straight sets.
Trinity dropped to 5-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play with the loss.
Three-time All-America senior Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) defeated Trinity's Rex Glickman 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-5 at No. 1 singles in the closest matchup of the day. The win was Rosen's fourth straight at first singles, giving him a singles record of 7-2.
Rosen and sophomore Jacob Kauppila (Chesterfield, Mo.) defeated Glickman and Kyle Scheffers 8-4 at first doubles. Fellow senior captain Josh Leiner (Baltimore, Md.) teamed with junior Josh Quijano (Los Angeles, Calif.) for an 8-4 win over Tanner Boyle and Courtland Boyle at second doubles, while first-year Alex Kennedy (New York, N.Y.) and junior Dylan Davis (Dix Hills, N.Y.) won 8-5 at third doubles over Chris Bilicic and Granville Kaynor.
In singles play, sophomore Nick Glover (Austin, Texas) raised his singles record to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bilicic at fifth singles, and sophomore Jacob Eisenberg (Armonk, N.Y.) defeated Alex Fallone 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles to bring his individual record to 4-5.
Quijano rose to 7-3 in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Kaynor at second singles, and Leiner evened his mark to 4-4 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles. Kauppila, meanwhile, posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Scott Danforth at fourth singles for a 6-3 record.
The Bobcats will stay at home to host Connecticut College on April 15 at 2pm. Trinity will host Wesleyan Thursday at 3:30pm.
